Baking Christmas cookies with my grandkids and spending time with family!

St. Nick which was yesterday. In Milwaukee almost everyone celebrated it. Goes back to my great grandparents getting an orange even in the depression. The stocking is exciting, not an afterthought because you want the packages Santa gave you.

Hanukkah cookies with my family. they’ve been doing it since my mom was a kid and now my son gets to bake with all his aunts, uncles, and cousins

Fruitcake. But really good recipe from my grandma. I didn’t appreciate it as a kid, but now as an adult we make it every year.

Fruitcake has such a bad rep. I hated, but had only had storebought/mass produced. Homemade is a totally different thing!

Going out to eat in Frankenmuth, Mi. and driving around looking at the night.

Baking Christmas cookies is a favorite. When my daughter lived at home she would help. Now that she also has a family, we try to at least spend 1 day baking together. This year my granddaughter will be helping too. I’ve bought lots of sprinkles. 🙂

When I was growing up, we had Christmas morning church services at 6am. My uncles who were still single along with my grandparents would come to our house for breakfast after church and to open presents. Every year, my grandpa would give me a doll and every year he told me that would be the last one. I think I was 12 when I got the last one. We would then go to grandma and grandpa’s house or my great aunt’s house for Christmas with the extended family.
When my girls were little, we would go to a late afternoon movie then out to eat on Christmas Eve. Magically, Santa would come while we were gone. Now the movie theaters and restaurants all close by 4 which is ok with me so they can be with their families.
Now that I have grandsons, I go to midnight mass (actually at 10 pm!) b/c that is when our choir sings and they are so good. The whole family then goes to mass Christmas morning then to my daughter’s house for our Christmas meal which is now normally soup then we open presents and enjoy Christmas movies.

As an adult, Baking and enjoying christmas dinner with my daughter and family. All thise family recipes.
As a child, my sister and I lived with my grandfather. He would go out to the woods and cut down a fresh pine tree on Christmas Eve morning . Our Christmas Eve festivities, included putting up the Christmas tree and opening our gifts. So magical to put up on Christmas Eve.

My mom started a christmas village when I was in middle school. I inherited the start with the original buildings and the last couple of years my husband bought me more on ebay to finish the original set. It’s my favorite time putting it together every year.

There’s a christmas display that we go to every year. The kids always have hot chocolate and cookies for the car.
