Pocket scrapbooking used to be a term for making layouts using the vinyl pocket insert sleeves. Nowadays, pocket scrapbooking has evolved across both digital and paper scrapbooking to refer to any type of layout that’s in a block style format. Layouts can be very simple with a few photos and journal cards, or more intricate with clusters of elements. Scrapbooking is all about doing it your way.
Let’s take a look at some ways my Creative Team uses a pocket format for scrapping a layout. First examples are from CT Member Tracie who uses a minimalist approach. This adorable page shows off meeing with the Disney characters dressed in their Marvel attire. Tracie used the American Caption collection. The focus is all on the photos with just a little bit of decoration in the blocks.

Here’s a 2-page Star Wars layout from Tracie. She used a journal card, paper, and snippet from the Edge Of The Galaxy collection, a Kylo Ren journal card from The Dark Side collection, along with other items from the Galaxy Adventure collection. All you need is just a few decorative elements to embellish your story.

In addition to creating digital pocket layouts using traditional scrapbooking software, you can also use your phone or table with a mobile scrapbooking app to create simple, pocket based pages. Our Pocket Layout Artist Jenna uses the Project Life mobile app to quickly create her layouts. This layout features her checking in to the Pop Century Resort. She used 3 journal cards from the Checking In Pop Century collection. Using the app, you can very quickly pop in your photos and these journal cards into the template and now you’ve got a beautiful, colorful page!
Here’s 2 more layouts from Jenna’s Disney album include a layout from Disney Springs and one from Epcot. She used journal cards from the At The Springs Dining collection, At The Springs Entertainment collection, and the Epcot Future Fun collection. Because the journal cards are so decorative and layered, just having a few cards on the page really makes everything just pop!

Pocket scrapbook layouts don’t necessarily have to be simple or minimalist. You can scrap with a digital pocket template that allow you to keep that block style concept and then add in lots more papers, embellishments, and decorations.
Here’s some examples from our Digital Layout Artists where they’ve added in more elements, word strips, and word art titles, but still kept a clean block style. Check out these 3 layouts from CT Member JulieM, Lynn, and JulieP.
You can also add in more decorations by stacking papers in the background, adding in clusters of elements, and using oversized word art titles. These pages are just gorgeous from CT Members Jenn, Debbie, Lynn, and Karen. Notice the groupings of detailed flower clusters and how there’s lots more decorative elements on the page.
